Spirit, Open Our Hearts - An Afternoon with Bishop Current
Join Bishop current for an afternoon of fellowship, conversation, and worship on Sunday, November 23rd from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Unity Lutheran Church in Burlington. Bishop Current will share stories of the impact of mission support over the last year with words of gratitude. This gathering is for anyone interested in gathering with people from other area congregations and hearing more about the ministry we do together as the Southeastern Iowa Synod and beyond.

Bishop Amy Current
Southeastern Iowa Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Rev. Amy Current is a pastor in The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and has served the Southeastern Iowa Synod in the office of bishop since 2020. She is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, MN (B.A.) and Wartburg Theological Seminary (M.Div.).
Prior to her role as bishop, Current served as vice president for admissions and student services at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. She also served in various leadership roles at Wartburg Seminary including director for financial aid and stewardship formation, director for public communications, and interim director of the Center for Youth Ministries. Born and raised in North Dakota, Amy was honored to serve as pastor of Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church in Harwood, N.D., as pastor of Golden Ridge Lutheran Church, Fargo, N.D., and Congregational Lutheran United Church, Gardner, N.D.
Bishop Current serves on the boards of Grand View University, Lutheran Services in Iowa, and Wartburg College.
Bishop Current is married to Rev. Dr. Samuel Giere, who serves as professor of biblical interpretation at Wartburg Theological Seminary. They have two children, Isaac and Shonagh Current Giere. The family has a miniature Australian shepherd, Archie.
Bishop Current enjoys reading novels, kayaking, snowshoeing, walking, sharing meals, lingering in conversation, watching tv and exploring through travel.
Pastor Misha at Society of Biblical Liturgy (S.B.L.) 11/18-11/25
Pastor Misha will be away at S.B.L. (Society of Biblical Liturgy) for continued Education from Tuesday, November 18 through Tuesday, November 25. Pastor Emergency Contact information will be announced when available for the time she will be away.
Office Closures!
The office will be closed on Friday, November 21st, due to an appointment, and also on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of Thanksgiving!
Poinsettia Orders!
Poinsettia orders start this week on Sunday, November 9! Forms will be provided for you inside your bulletins and also can be found in the November issue of the Chimes Newsletter. Please fill out the order form and place in the offering plate on Sunday with payment. If you cannot make it on Sunday and would like to order, you may mail in your form and payment or drop it off at the office during office hours. We have some extra order forms in the office if you need one! Deadline and last chance to order by is Sunday, November 30. This is to ensure we get our order placed in a timely manner. Thank you!
Hanging of the Greens
The hanging of the greens will occur on Sunday, November 30, immediately following Worship service at 10:15am! Any and all are welcome to join us, as many hands make light work!
Saint Nicholas Day!
Please join us for a joint event with Messiah at Bethany for an afternoon of learning stations about Saint Nicholas, The Nativity, Hymns, and so much more, to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day, on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 from 2:00pm-4:00pm! This is a free, all-ages event and is open to both churches and the community! Come have some fun with us!
Angel Tree
Wow! All of our Angel Tree tags have been chosen already! You all are amazing! All gifts will need to be returned unwrapped and in a bag with the Angel tag and put under the tree by Wednesday, December 10! Thank you for your generosity!
